What happens after I submit my Job Application?

IRMNCH & NP will review your application and determine whether you qualify for the position(s). If you qualify, you will receive a call, or, if an exam is required for this position, you will be scheduled for testing which will determine your score.

If I am contacted and scheduled for an interview, what should I bring to the interview?

You should bring a completed Employment Application and any other job materials requested in the advertisement.

What will happen during the interview?

Normally, an interview panel of at least two individuals will ask you to respond to a series of questions. You may also be asked to complete some type of performance test, depending on the position for which you are being interviewed. In some cases, you may be asked to complete a second round interview.

What will happen after the interview?

Regardless of whether you are selected for the position, you will be notified once a decision is made.

When is payday?

You will be paid once a month, generally on the last working day of the month.

CMW Program

Who is a Skilled Birth Attendant?

Skilled Birth Attendant refers to a professionally trained health worker with the skills necessary to manage a normal delivery and diagnose and refer obstetric complications.Skilled Birth Attendants must be able to manage labor and delivery, recognize complications early on and perform any essentials interventions, start treatment and supervise the referral of mother and baby to the next level of care if necessary.

Where they will get training?

They are trained in accredited institutions and are examined and licensed under a recognized national regulatory authority.

What is definition of a Community Midwife?

The Community Midwives are specially trained Skilled Birth Attendants who are equipped to conduct a normal home delivery under conduct a normal home delivery under safe and clean conditions.

What is the Overview of the CMW program?

Women will be selected from the community where they are most likely to stay and work, and trained in midwifery skills at health facilities. These community midwives will be registered and regulated under the rules and regulations of Pakistan Nursing Council
(PNC). They will practice midwifery in their respective union councils under the supervision of district health authorities. Once qualified and registered with the PNC, the CMW shall be facilitated to establish her own practice in the community. She will also be provided with supportive supervision from the District Health Department, and will be backed up by referral linkages with EmONC facilities in the district.

What is CMW model?

The CMW model includes the following functions:

• Providing individualized care to the pregnant women throughout the maternity cycle and the newborn, in her own environment and helping her in self-care.
• Monitoring the physical, social and emotional well-being of the pregnant woman as needed.
• Taking appropriate action within the resources available.
• Providing guidance and counseling to the community for healthy habits and involving the family in preparation for childbirth and for unforeseen emergencies.
• Identifying actual or anticipated conditions requiring medical attention and making timely referrals.
• Practicing midwifery within the legal framework and following the professional code of conduct provided by the relevant authority.

How program Identify candidates for community midwifery training?

Selection will be made at district level through a committee backed by dissemination of information through print and electronic media, and local announcements. The advertisement for the potential candidates for midwifery training will be carried out in national langue in all the province.
The selection committee should meet with community organizations if active in the area and seek their support and guidance in identifying appropriate candidates. In areas where a community organization does not exist the committee should meet with key members of that community to discuss and obtain their support for the program. Before the start of the recruitment drive a nationwide publicity campaign shall be launched informing about the minimum requirements for CMWs and in some hard areas special campaigns initiated to identify potential candidates for recruitment.

What is Selection Criteria for CMW Training?

The community midwives shall be selected only from the rural areas, hard to reach and urban slums (Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Rawalpindi).

The selection criteria may be summarized as follows:-
_ Female, preferably married.
_ Permanent resident of the area, for which she is applying.
_ Minimum qualification should be at least Matric preferably with Science subjects obtaining 45% marks
_ Have experience of working in the community
_ Should be 18 – 35 years of age.

How many schools are recognized for CMW Training?

There are 36 community Midwifery Schools in Punjab one in each district merged with school of Nursing at DHQ Hospitals of concerned districts.

Is midwifery care safe?

There is a large body of evidence that supports midwifery care as a safe choice for low-risk healthy women. In fact, researchers found that women and babies did better on average in countries where midwifery was the normal care.
FACT: Midwifery clients experienced lower rates of forceps, vacuum extractions, cesarean sections, episiotomies, infections and babies born requiring resuscitation, in studies where midwifery was compared to physician led care.

Is midwifery care legal?

The PNC is an autonomous, regulatory body constituted under the Pakistan Nursing Council Act (1952, 1973) and empowered to register (license) Nurses, Midwives, Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) and Nursing Auxiliaries to practice in Pakistan. PNC was established in 1948.

Do I have to pay for midwifery care?

Yes As per PC 1 she is allowed to take 1000/PKR per delivery client.

If I have a Community Midwife, do I need a Doctor as well?

No. Community Midwives are experts in healthy pregnancy, normal births, and well babies. She can refer the client to other health facilities in case if complication arises.

What is the working relationship between Community Midwives and Health facilities?

Midwives consult with Health facilities if a situation arises during pregnancy that falls outside of the Community Midwife’s scope of practice. They have clear indications for consultation and/or transfer of care as set out by their curriculum designed by PNC.

What experience and training to Midwives have?

All Registered Community Midwives in Punjab have 2 year diploma of CMWs training. They have demonstrated a high level of competency as required by the Pakistan Nursing Council through rigorous clinical, oral, and written examinations. Registered Midwives are also required to maintain their skills through on going in service education provided by the IRMNCH & NP Punjab.

How do I train to become a midwife?

How to apply to become a midwife?

The first step to becoming a midwife is to apply in your relevant district office Applications for full-time approved Community midwifery course are accepted by hand.

• Qualification: Matriculation with science
• Gender: Female
• Age: 18 – 35 year
• Applicant should be resident of same district (with same address on CNIC and domicile)
• During training living in hostel is must
• Candidate will fill surety bond that she will not leave training of two year and remain deployed in program 3 year after completion of training
• Program will pay stipend during training

Nutrition Program

What is malnutrition?

Malnutrition is a serious condition that develops due to inadequate or imbalanced intake of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients needed to maintain health and organ function. Malnutrition can be under-nutrition or over-nutrition. Under nutrition is the consequence of consuming an inadequate amount of nutrients and calories needed for the overall development and growth of body while over-nutrition results from overeating or consuming nutrients in wrong proportions; for example, following a diet with excess fat but limited proteins and vitamins.

What is SAM and MAM?

The term SAM in local terms is called Sokra . It is severe acute malnutrition. It occurs due deficiency of protein and energy. MAM is called Moderately acute malnourished child.

Is there treatment of Malnutrition?

The IRMNCH program has set different OTPs and SCs in all district of Punjab. The criteria is under 5 child. The children without and medical complication is treated at OTP where as a child with complication is admitted at SC established at THQ, DHQ Teaching hospitals of the districts.

My child is shorter than his fellow age group is that bad?

Children who suffer from chronic malnutrition fail to grow to their full genetic potential, both mentally and physically. The main symptom of this measured is stunting – shortness in height compared to others of the same age group who are at normal height and takes a long time to develop. There is a critical window for a child’s optimal physical and mental growth and development, from when it is still in its mother’s womb and during its first two years of life. Take your child to pediatrician for regular checkup for monitoring the weight for age and height for age.

What is Necessary to give a new born that lacks in nutrients?

Most children, all they need for the first six months of their lives is exclusive breast feeding. The children don’t even need water. This is not a commonly known fact, and many people do introduce other foods, and there are serious adverse impacts to introducing inappropriate food sources early in children’s lives”. After six months introduce semi solid diet and continue to breastfeed for at least two years.
